Koumoutsakos: The briefing we had from Mr Nimetz, unfortunately, does not diminish our concerns

  e-mail
The long-time UN mediator for the fYRoM “name issue”, Matthew Nimetz, met in Athens with main opposition New Democracy (ND) party’s foreign affairs shadow minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos on Tuesday. Nimetz is visiting Athens to continue the latest round of negotiations between the two countries aiming to resolve the name issue.

After the meeting, Mr. Koumoutsakos made the following announcement:

"The briefing we had from Mr Nimetz, unfortunately, does not diminish our concerns. That is why we consider it appropriate to reiterate the clear position of New Democracy. The solution must be uniform and indivisible and must provide for:

First, the elimination of all forms of irredentism from the neighboring country.

Second, be accepted by the Greeks.

And thirdly, its adoption for all uses and by all.

It is obvious that the only guarantee for all this is the change of the Skopje Constitution. "
