Mission chiefs to be in Athens on October 23rd for 3rd review


Post yesterday’s Eurogroup, the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici stated that the institution mission chiefs are expected to be in Athens on October 23rd, so that the authorities formulate and assess the requirements for the completion of the 3rd review, while the matter of completing the state arrear clearing requirement is still pending in order to secure the EUR 800mn residual disbursement from the 2nd review.

Finance Ministers confirmed that Dutch Jeroen Dijsselbloem will continue to head the Eurogroup until January 2018, as largely expected, and also bid a warm farewell to German Wolfgang Schaeuble, who will become the president of the German parliament.


He is likely to be replaced by a member of the countrys liberal FDP party and who is expected to maintain the strict German line on euro zone fiscal policy. "We have succeeded in eight years of crisis to keep the euro stable against many expectations, so for me its quite a good ending," Schaeuble said.
